Privacy Policy – Unseen: Hidden Camera Detector

Unseen helps you check an unfamiliar private space for cameras you did not expect. A hotel room, a short-stay rental, a changing room. It works with sensors your phone already has: the camera, which looks for the glint of a lens; Bluetooth; the local network your phone has joined; the magnetometer; and, on devices that support them, AR and LiDAR to keep track of how much of the room you have covered.
This page describes what the app does today, in the version named above.
Unseen never claims certainty. It tells you what it found, it tells you what it could not check, and it asks you to look with your own eyes. It does not tell you that a room is clean, and it does not imply that it has found every camera. It is a tool that helps you check, not a guarantee of safety.
1. What stays on your phone
Your scans, their results and the reports you create are stored on your phone. There is no Unseen account, there is no login, and there is no Unseen server.
The list of devices a scan sees is not sent to us. We cannot read your scans, because they never reach us.
2. What leaves your phone, and when
Four things involve another company. Each one happens only when the thing it belongs to happens.
1) Purchases, through Apple
When you buy Premium, Apple takes the payment. We never see your card details. RevenueCat is the service that tells the app whether your Premium is active, so the app knows what to unlock and can restore your purchase when you change phone.
2) Product analytics, with PostHog, hosted in the EU
Unseen records which screens you opened and which scans you ran, so we can see which parts of the app people use and which parts confuse them. This data is processed in the European Union.
It does not record what a scan found. The devices a scan saw, and the result it reached, stay on your phone.
3) Rewarded ads, with Google AdMob
If you choose to watch a short video to earn an extra free scan, Google AdMob serves that video. Unseen uses rewarded video only, and it asks for non-personalised ads.
Like any request to a server on the internet, the ad request reveals your IP address to Google, and an IP address can be used to estimate your location roughly, usually to the level of a city or region. We are saying that plainly rather than leaving it implied. If you never watch a rewarded ad, no ad request is made.
4) A report you choose to share
You can export a report of a scan. If you then send it somewhere, by mail, by message or through any other app you pick, it goes to whoever you send it to. That is your choice, and it happens outside Unseen.
3. Permissions this version asks for
Unseen asks for three permissions, and only when the feature that needs one runs.
- Camera, to look for the reflection of a lens and, on devices that support it, to track how much of the room you have covered.
- Local network, to see devices on the network your phone has joined.
- Bluetooth, to see Bluetooth devices nearby.
The magnetometer needs no permission on iOS. This version does not ask for your location, and it does not use the name of the Wi-Fi network you are on.
You can review or withdraw any of these permissions at any time in the Settings app on your device. A feature that needs a permission you have withdrawn will tell you so, and the scan will report that part as something it could not check.
4. Tracking
Unseen does not ask for App Tracking Transparency, for any feature at all. It does not track you across other apps or websites. Because we never ask, iOS does not hand the app the advertising identifier used for tracking between apps, and the ads are non personalised.
This is a product commitment, not a setting you have to go and find.
5. Children
Unseen is not made for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from a child. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will take care of it.
6. Your choices
- Grant or withdraw the camera, local network and Bluetooth permissions in Settings.
- Choose whether to watch a rewarded ad. Nothing in the app requires it, and skipping it means no ad request is made.
- Delete the app to remove the scans and reports stored on your phone.
- Ask us to delete the analytics events that came from your device, by writing to [email protected].
- Depending on where you live, you may have further rights over your data, for example under the GDPR or Türkiye’s KVKK.
7. Keeping and deleting data
We do not hold a profile of you, because we never collect one. Scans and reports live on your phone, and deleting the app removes them.
Analytics events are kept by PostHog for as long as we need them to understand how the app is used, and no longer than the law allows. Purchase records held by Apple and by RevenueCat, and advertising data held by Google, are kept under their own policies: Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, Google.
8. Security
Anything the app sends travels over an encrypted connection. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise, but the amount of your information we hold is small by design.
9. Changes to this policy
When we change this page we update the date at the top, and we note which version of the app it covers. If a change is significant we will point it out in the app.
